Analytical Development Chemist

  • Working in the field of synthetic organic process chemistry, our Analytical Development (AD) Chemists are responsible for the development and optimisation of analytical methods to support process R&D, scale-up and manufacturing in a professional and safe manner.  The role requires strong technical expertise, practical problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across our PR&D and Quality functions, to support timely and in-budget project delivery and production.

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and optimise analytical methods (e.g. HPLC, GC, LC-MS, GC-MS, NMR, titrations, spectroscopic techniques) for in-process control, product characterisation and release testing
    • Generate high-quality analytical data to support process development, scale-up and transfer to manufacturing
    • Troubleshoot analytical challenges and provide technical guidance to colleagues
    • Maintain and calibrate analytical instruments, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results
    • Prepare technical reports, method documentation and contribute to project records
    • Lead analytical discussions with clients
    • Work closely with PR&D, Quality and Production teams to meet project objectives and timelines
    • Support technology transfer and customer projects as required
    • Contribute to continuous improvement and implementation of best practices within the laboratory
    • Ensure compliance with company health, safety and environmental standards

     

    Person Specification

    Qualifications:

    • BSc, MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or closely related discipline

    Experience & Skills:

    • Practical experience with analytical techniques (HPLC, GC essential; LC-MS or NMR desirable)
    • Track record in analytical method development and validation
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
    • Ability to interpret and communicate data effectively
    • Experience in a manufacturing, chemicals or pharmaceutical environment desirable (but not essential)
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and documentation
